Cuckoo Behaviour

I went looking for Cuckoo again today in the company of Bob Sharples and we were lucky enough to find not just one but two birds.

I picked up the location of or first bird in the same tree as my last visit and as before it was busy predating on caterpillars from the hedgerow alongside a barbed wire fence and we watched it take an impressive five caterpillars in around twenty minutes

Next the male starts to make his famous mating call and this time he gets a response and is off in a flash.

But the response was from another male and our first bird goes straight on the attack but the second bird side wings the approach and can't get itself out of the location quick enough  !!

The first Male returns to his main patch where a Meadow Pipit takes up the challenge of trying to:                                                                ' see him off of its patch'   but our male Cuckoo is having none of it and returns to its catapillar hunting,

A very enjoyable and productive sighting
