Recent Stithians flight portraits

Following on from 'The Pecking Order' blog I have added here a few more flight Photo opportunites produced by the attraction of birds to Stithians feeding station,  First up the female Great Spotted Woodpecker is alerted by the sound of my shutter firing and the second image of her immediate departure is merged with the first,  Blue Tit, Chaffinch,  Long tailed Tit and Coal Tit form part of a steady stream of birds flying to and from the feeders, and male and female Bullfinch will often feed under the feeders and on surrounding vegetation seed heads as in the final image.

Garden visitors today

Apart from my early visit to Marazion marsh this morning the wet weather put the damper on visiting any other locations through the day, I settled down to producing this years crop of Xmas cards in my study but my wife kept coming in to inform me that she had spotted  a 'This or That' bird somewhere in the garden and perhaps I should snap it,  So I did and the images below represent some of the sixteen species that I snapped away at as the day progressed,  The male and female Bullfinch are the first ones sighted in our garden in seven years of living here but the female Blackcap has to be my favourite and takes the first and last slot in the portfolio below and yes I have just finished the Xmas cards somewhat later than intended.

Aerial dispute

Back some time ago I published a blog relating to fighting Goldfinch but today seemed to be the day for the Chaffinch to show their disputes over the pecking order at Stithians feeding station,  The pair of birds shown in the sequence below ended up falling to the ground in a rolling ball of flying feathers while other birds carried on feeding, so I guess they were both........Losers

Looking back through recent work I also realised that I had overlooked the regular fleeting visits of a feisty pair of Coal Tits that deftly darted in grab food from any available feeder and were immediately off again as fast as lightening making them a bit of a challenge for flight shots.
