Yesterday's Mixed bag

My first sighting of an Osprey this morning was of it flying off with a fish in its talons so that was the beginning and end of that shoot !

A local solo Mute Swan was more accommodating as it posed for reflection, preening and close up portrait images.

A  collection of Cormorants were having an early morning get-together but one seemed to prefer the company of a resident Grey Heron.

A raucous Jay departs excitedly with a giant acorn just as a large boxer dog arrived and scattered everything in sight.

I took a look at the old heavy weight boxer's powerful jaws and decided that was just fine by me and it was time that this particular old boy was heading for home anyway !!

Focus on Drift Reservoir

Above is the view from a cover point that I sometimes use at Drift Reservoir and the images below were all taken during a three hour shoot there earlier today.


Nice to see a squirrel freely foraging about on the reservoirs open banks.

It is quite common to see fox out hunting on the shoreline and this one came very close until I fired my shutter after which it took off in a flash.

Many Grey Heron grace the banks of Drift Reservoir and reflections shots and take-off 's are there for the taking.

The resident Moorhen are always busy and they provide good reflection images from the many partially submerged tree stumps.

With plenty of small fish and dozens of tree stumps to work from Kingfishers are a common sight around Drift Reservoir.

Last but not least comes this fairly rare sighting of a nice Black Rabbit !

Hayle Estuary Wildlife

While waiting for many hours for the Osprey featured in the previous blog I spent much of my time snapping away on the variety of wildlife that passes through Hayle Estuary over time and decided to produce this additional blog of some of the images captured

Shell Duck.

It was a cold frosty morning around Marazion today but the lack of wind made it pleasant to be out and about and the clouded sunrise made a fine spectacle backing up the coastline at St Micheal's Mount

                                             

A lone doe Roe Deer browsed the hedgerow in the fields behind Longrock pool and a rabbit on the warren didn't like getting cold paws on the frosted grass and so it resulted to warming them up on its cheeks.

I stopped  for a while and watched some of the larger birds that arrived early at the marsh.  First in were several pairs of Noisy Canada Geese that all made a nice fly-by only to turn to make graceful landings on the waters at the front of the warren.

I then watched the skill and agility with which a Grey Heron approached and landed on what looked like an impossible Willow tree branches for such a large bird to land on but it sat there rock solid posing as still as a statue,

While working with the Great Spotted Woodpecker recorded in the previous blog I also recorded the following birds which started with a dark form Pheasant in the fields on the way into the hide and was followed by a disturbed Grey Heron on arrival.

Next up came a feeding Coot and many rather well fed male and female Chaffinch and Blue Tits, Goldfinch and Great Tits.  A rather wet looking raiding Magpie. Two pairs of reed Bunting and to finish a fine looking pair of Bullfinch
