Cuckoo in the rough grass

I spent two hours watching a Cuckoo predating on caterpillar in rough grass a few evenings ago, it travelled several hundred metres without flying.

It  was sometimes visible to photograph but more often obscured by the long grass only to pop up again several metres from its last shown position.

Fortunately for me it was generally moving in my direction to the extent that it ended up just twelve metres in front of me where most of the images posted here were taken.

I was surprised at its level of hunting success and estimate that it took in excess of twenty caterpillars during the time that I worked with it and it was still going when I left.
