Early morning Cuckoo calling

As a cold mist drifted over the Cornish Downs early Am today a red ball of fire rose into the sky from the east and proceeded to consume it and I for one was glad to see it being burnt off.

I had heard an early Cuckoo calling on the Down and gradually worked my way towards it and my first few images of it calling were effected by the strength of the red glow from the sun before it brightened into white light within a few minutes.

As it turned out there were two Cuckoo in the area so one had to be ejected out of the territory before  our new resident was able to move down into the rough grass fields looking for  an early breakfast.

It came by way of a nest of newly emerged caterpillars of which the Cuckoo consumed more than a dozen before the persistent call of its competitor sent it flying off again in hot pursuit.

There were more problems ahead for this recent arrival so watch this space in tomorrows blog for the balance of the story
