A few more Woodpeckers

Yesterdays Great Spotted Woodpecker in St Erth seemed to get good view ratings and as I happened to have returned to their nest site again today I have added a few more images.

First up is the female woodpecker exiting from the well chosen tight and over-shadowed nest entrance.

She flies straight off in search of more food for her growing brood.

The more colourful male Woodpecker arrives shortly after the female's departure and looks to have chopped peanuts or fat-ball hand-outs from local garden feeders which he will feed direct to the young that are just inside the nest hole before departing.

With the Chicks fed the pair both take on the rather distasteful but important job of clearing waste products from their carved out tree trunk nest bowl.

I am looking forward to seeing perhaps three or four juvenile red capped fledglings in the near future so keep an eye on this blog if you would like to see them !
