The sound of the chicks deep inside a tree gave their location away every time one of the adult woodpeckers returned to the nest with food which was on a very regular basis.
Light levels around the nest hole were always in the shadow and the chicks not mature enough to be showing as yet but I hope to return ongoing to record them once that they have fledged
