Little Egret - Big Ego

The above image of a couple of very un-cool Little Egrets makes me smile,  They appear to have much of the Fal Estuary mudflats to themselves but both seemed to have decided that they each want to feed on one particular section of bank and they are rapidly losing patience with each other.

I started watching them while waiting for Osprey action at Point Quay today and recorded the images below leading up to their demented behaviour above.

One Egret ,  No problem !

A second bird joins the first and all seems to be OK

Both birds move up onto the mudflats and seem to need to produce their best ballerina impressions.

Their rivalry starts to rub and one bird takes a stab at the other.

The smaller bird decides that the bigger one has got to go and starts a bit of a chase.

But the larger bird stops and does not want to go which drives the smaller one crazy.

It jabbs at the larger bird and it all ends up with them both taking off.

They closely fly to the opposite end of the creek and appeared to land together like the best of friends presumable to start the same performance all over again !!
