Kestrel nest action today

Our male Kestrel returns to the nest area with more prey and sees that the female is in the nest still feeding her chicks the previous vole that he had supplied.

He makes the mistake of taking his fresh kill on into the nest and presents it to her.

She takes the prey and immediately departs from the nest leaving the male confused by her action

The male knows that he is not welcome at the nest and takes no part in feeding the chicks so he turns and follows the female out.

The female just wanted the male away from the nest and she returns with his latest prey offering to continue feeding the chicks as soon as he has left.

She feeds all of these three week old chicks in turn making sure that all from the largest to the smallest get a share and as can be seen by the one below all five are doing very well !
