The Wigeon that overflew the Flock

Shortly after I arrived at Ryan's field this morning a small flock of Wigeon flew in to land on the opposite side of the lagoon.

Wigeon are generally shy birds and tend to avoid people having long been the target of many Fowler's but on this occasion one male bird over flew the rest of the flock and landed far closer to the hide creating a nice landing sequence for the camera.

Once settled on the water it looked around and then to my surprise it walked out of the water and onto the bank in front of the hide and commenced feeding on algae growth that was exposed by the low water level.

It seemed to be completely unconcerned about the four very close wildlife photographers that were all snapping away merrily as it fed on the algea for several minutes before departing to join the rest of its flock at a distance
