Kestrel Prey Hand-Over

A male Kestrel returns to the heart of its territory with prey to sustain his mate while she raises this years family.

I had been waiting five hours in high coastal winds to capture this prey hand-over but when it eventually came together it was all worth it.

The male lands and grips onto a wind driven granite wall and calls to his nearby mate to collect his offerings.

She flies in to collect her first late meal of the day that the male is just lifting up for her to claim mouth to mouth.

Once she has taken the prey from the male the female always puts space between them to ensure that the prey is hers to devour.

So off she goes with the prey while the male is nearly blown off of the wall by the strong southerly winds

The Male can't hold his ground on the wall and goes for a rugged lift off .

He is soon seen effortlessly hovering over his territory once again looking for his next prey victim
